A Canadian innovator has secured a place on Time Magazine’s prestigious list of the 200 most remarkable inventions of 2023.
Naqi Logix, the brainchild behind this groundbreaking technology, boasts patented earbud technology equipped with gyroscopic sensors and muscle and brainwave sensors. These cutting-edge features empower users to effortlessly and hands-free control a wide array of digital devices.
Inventor Dave Segal envisions this innovation as a revolutionary game-changer for E-Sports and video gaming, as it has the potential to replace conventional game controllers, rendering joysticks and buttons obsolete. Segal has even demonstrated the technology’s versatility by utilizing it with flight simulation software to successfully pilot a 737 aircraft.
However, what truly sets this development apart is its life-altering potential. Naqi Logix has harnessed this technology to provide quadriplegic individuals with the ability to control powered wheelchairs, all with the simplicity of an earbud, eliminating the need for complex head arrays, sip-puff straws, or traditional joysticks.
Former Vancouver mayor, Sam Sullivan, who himself is quadriplegic, was invited to experience the device firsthand. He expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’ve been waiting for something like this my whole life. As a quadriplegic, I can say the ability to control a chair just by looking at where I want to go or by blinking my eyes to control the smart devices in the world around me is an amazing thing for me and other people with accessibility issues.”
Segal passionately believes that this invention has the potential to transform lives. He remarked, “Anytime you give somebody an almost, what I’d consider magical ability to command, control, and navigate your entire world without touching anything, looking at anything, or speaking voice commands, it’s a game-changer for humanity.”
The name “Naqi” draws inspiration from the Annunaki gods, ancient Sumerian deities believed to govern the cosmos. The company aims to introduce the earbuds to the market in the early part of the coming year. This innovation holds the promise of not only enhancing the gaming experience but also revolutionizing accessibility and control for individuals with diverse needs.
