A one-year-old boy tragically lost his life over the weekend, having endured severe injuries approximately 12 hours before his eventual hospitalization, according to the authorities.
The young child, named Ruthless-Empire Souljah Reign Rhind Shepherd Wall, was taken to Hutt Hospital in Wellington, New Zealand, in an unresponsive state at 10:30 am on Sunday, marking the beginning of a harrowing investigation into a possible homicide. The level of violence inflicted upon him has been described by the police as beyond comprehension.
The child’s mother, Storm Angel Wall, had initially claimed that the child choked during breakfast and that the family discovered a wet wipe in the baby’s mouth at their property in Taitā. However, Detective Inspector Nick Pritchard stated on Thursday that Ru had tragically succumbed to blunt force trauma, and there is no concrete evidence to suggest that wet wipes played a role in his demise.
Insp Pritchard emphasized that the injuries inflicted upon Ru were highly unlikely to have been accidental. He lamented the tragedy, saying, “He was an innocent child who should have been safe and cherished, and his death is deeply distressing. The extent of violence directed towards a child in this case is profoundly difficult to comprehend.”
He also expressed the commitment of an extensive investigative team to seek justice for baby Ru, assuring that they are resolute in their pursuit of answers.
The police investigation suggests that the child was injured around 10:30 pm on Saturday night. Ru’s mother had shared her distress on social media, mentioning that her son had passed away due to an unresponsive condition, which she initially attributed to a choking incident during breakfast. She stated, “I have made every effort to seek help for him, but he is now at rest in Wellington.”
The authorities are considering three individuals as persons of interest, one of whom is a blood relative, while the other two are extended family members.
