A frustrated father took to Reddit’s ‘Am I The A**hole’ thread to express his outrage after discovering that his daughter had withdrawn money from her college fund to attend a TV convention. The family had diligently saved for her college education since she was an infant, with contributions from family members as well. The father emphasized that they had always stressed that the money in the account was exclusively for college and that his daughter had her own separate savings account.

The daughter had expressed a strong desire to attend a convention in Australia with her girlfriend, who is also a fan of the TV show Supernatural. Despite his initial refusal, he had assumed she would use her savings to fund the trip. However, he was shocked to find a substantial amount of money missing from her college fund, totaling about $10,000. She had used the money to buy plane tickets, convention tickets, and a hotel stay for the extended trip.

The father admitted he lost his temper when he discovered the withdrawal and tried to persuade her to cancel the trip, but she refused. The daughter insisted it was her money to spend as she wished and that she still had enough for college. He felt that this episode revealed her immaturity and inability to manage her future and finances.

In response, the father had locked the account, ensuring only he had access. He told his daughter that she could say goodbye to the rest of her college fund and expressed doubts about her repaying the money. While his wife and mother-in-law were more lenient and offered to repay a portion, he believed this would teach his daughter that she could buy her way out of trouble.

The furiours parent took to Reddit to share the story, where many people sympathized with him but thought his punishment was a big harsh

The Reddit community had mixed opinions. Some argued that the daughter’s contribution to the account should entitle her to some funds. Others suggested that the setup of the account, with her having access, may have contributed to her misunderstanding. A few felt that refusing to use the money for college could harm her future and lead to student loans, ultimately causing more harm than good.

Reddit users didn't necessarily agree with the man's reaction to his daughter taking the money out of the account, especially as she had contributed to it
